Friendship can be pure
It can be hard to track sometimes, time that is. We are aware of it but we never truly realise just how fast it can pass by as we swept along in it's wake.
When we are young we do not think of the future behold the simple abstract view of the world that the young can have. To us the future was just another second of play, another second of laughter, another second of tears.
Friendship can be innocent
We spent our days, my dear friend, in the fields of youth. The sky was always blue to our innocent minds, even when the day was one of rain and cold, the sky was blue to us.
We played in the mud, we picked daisies and made daisy chains and we didn't have a care in the world. The future was too distant for us to consider, there was only the present moment.
Friendship can be hope
We held hands and skipped through the puddles left by the rain. We would share food that our mothers made for us and we would look up at the stars and make innocent wishes.
As your friend I would be there when you called, I would answer with a smile, a hug and any fears we had were washed away in our bond we had.
Friendship can be tough going
As we matured from innocent children into young adults, we continued to be friends and we would face the future together with ideas and fears of what lay ahead as we entered adulthood.
We loved others while keeping our friendship strong and together we were one another's shoulder's to cry on when life got us down.
Friendship can be sharing
We both became parents and as our children played together, we as their parents would guide our children together. The innocence of our past was behind us and the daily stresses of adult life became our conversations of the day. Gone were the days of daisy chains and jam sandwiches on a sunny day.
Our souls were linked by friendship, even when life threatened to spilt us apart from one another, we held strong to the bond that made us true friends.
Friendship can be long lasting if true
In many ways we needed one another as support, even when we were independent and our parent's lives came to an end, we were there for one another as the rock in one another's lives.
Our children grew into adults and we would support them as they took their steps into the larger world without us to guide them. We would talk about the time when our children were tiny bundles of joy in our arms.
And we would talk of the days gone by so long ago.
Friendship can be strong
We both knew that eventually there would be one thing that our friendship would not be able to hold against. It was expected.
It has been several weeks since our friendship was interrupted by the inevitable. I sat at your bedside as you drew your final breath, as you whispered a thank you to me, a thank you for being your friend for so long.
A true friend, you called me, just as I said to you.
Friendship can be beyond death
I am due to join you soon, my friend, and I look forward to seeing you again. Maybe whatever awaits after life is where we can see the sky as only the bright blue of our youth, and the fields of daisies waiting to be picked and linked together.
I can hear you calling to me, my dear friend, and I am answering. Friendship is never over as long as you hold strong to it.
Friendship can be all you need.
