Society has a strong obsession with masculinity, it views being male as the by all and end all while looking down on femininity.  Even to this day there is a persistent attitude that the female half of the species is inferior, an attitude that makes it hard for equality to be full.  The media promotes being male as a good thing, in video games, movies and more while much of religion still continues to hold to the notion that the male half of the species is the superior half.

But the male half is not superior, nor is the female half.  Both are equal, both have their strengths and their weaknesses, both are important.  For those of us who are trans*, we are expected to fit into only what people see on the outside while the actual gender within, the actual person, is dismissed.

While acceptance of those who are trans* is slowly happening, there is still a lot of hatred and a lot of murders inflicted against those who are trans*, especially towards transwomen like me.

There are many political and religious groups who continue to hold to the ignorant notion that what's between the legs determines the person, they use that nonsense as a means to try and block equality, especially for the trans* community.  There are some who even think that people like me should be hunted down and killed for not conforming to the demands of the hateful.

We are people, fellow human beings trying to live our lives and trying to seek our happiness.  We do not deserve to be so hated and dismissed by society, we can not help that our bodies were born differently from our gender.

The hate needs to stop, the killing needs to end.

While this story is fiction, the reality of what many who are born trans* go through daily is very real.
